Sneak Peak: OCTOVERTURE Collaborations
The start of a month-long ritual of thought, art, and exploration of the unknown, the unexplainable, and the uncanny.
The monstrous, the grotesque, the arcane, the profane– horror has long been a genre that invites us to express our creativity and pain through a confrontation with our fears.
During Octoverture (as I’m calling it) I hope to offer readers an introduction (overture) to the intersections of grief, pleasure, and the uncanny, through the lens of my personal and collaborative explorations.
There is a wealth of talented artists in the horror and occult spaces–creating, thinking, expressing– I am privileged to know so many of them. For Octoverture I’ll be interviewing a handful of these creators on their works and exploring the themes we often discuss on this substack: grief, illness, healing, mortality, fear…the list goes on.
Featured Collaborations:
Z.G.B. From The Preppy Witch Handbook Substack
on witchcraft, healing, and the history of western medicine.
Director Kristen Semedo
on her short horror film “Vermin” and taking revenge on the male-dominated horror-space.
Eventual Dance Company’s Caitlin Canty
on Unafraid a visual exploration of how dread and horror are processed through the female body.
Artist Dorian Keeffe
on body horror and transformation.
Tune in every week in October for a new conversation…
I am beyond excited to introduce my readers to these talented creators and their artistic endeavors, however macabre and horrifying they might be 😉 👻
